OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CBS Newspath is seeking a Producer-Writer-Editor for its New York City newsroom! This department generates content for the network's 200 affiliates around the country and international partners, featuring day of air news, political news, as well as health, consumer and entertainment topics.

This is an opportunity to cover a broad range of national and international stories in a fast-paced professional newsroom. You will work closely with a team of correspondents around the country, under the supervision of an experienced staff of executive producers. Responsibilities include writing smart, concise scripts and editing pieces on Avid under tight deadlines. Producers are also encouraged to pitch original story ideas, developing first class content through all stages of production - from research, to field producing to scripting, to final edit.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Writing day-of-air news packages and vosots. (Requires researching story, following story editorial developments, applying CBS News standards to script writing, and meeting deadlines for script approval and edit. Also requires updating script as story may change throughout shift.)
• Sourcing visual elements and voices for pieces in the CBS News environment. (May include booking subjects to interview and conducting those interviews. Often requires coordinating with other members of unit to stay tuned to incoming elements on breaking and developing news stories.)
• Planning graphic elements for pieces and either create or commission them
• Ownership of all video sourcing and related restrictions for all video/elements used in all edits, spelling out all sources and video restrictions with every edit. (Producers often work directly with Rights & Clearance, CBS News Standards and Legal to vet questions and resolve issues.)
• Enthusiasm for close collaboration with correspondents, photographers, editors and other producers to generate engaging content that will make an impact with audience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5 years of experience in major market or network required
• Ability to write and produce under tight deadlines in a busy news environment
• This position requires membership in both the Writers Guild of America and the IBEW

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in AVID
• Excellent communication and planning skills
• This position may require working -any- shift in the 24/7 news cycle
• Familiarity with potential sources of video and how to wrangle it, including video and sound from CBS News and Stations, CBS affiliates, Network News Service, agency services (ie APTN, Reuters), “handout” video, user generated content, etc

Hiring Salary Range: $123,876.48 - 123,877.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
