EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Promote public safety in patrol area. Respond to all dispatch calls in a timely manner. Investigate illegal or suspicious activities. Respond to a variety of calls that require several intervention approaches ranging from personal counseling techniques to the use of physical or deadly force. Take control of accident scenes to maintain traffic flow, to assist accident victims, and to investigate causes. Observe traffic and initiate traffic stops Perform checks on dwellings, buildings and grounds to ensure prevention of damage by fire, theft and/or vandalism. Respond to calls for assistance, administer first aid at crime or accident scenes; also securing these scenes to make sure the integrity of the scene and evidence are not compromised. Verify that the proper legal charges have been made against law offenders. Execute arrest warrants, locating and taking persons into custody. Apprehend and arrest suspects without violating suspect's rights or causing undue harm while observing officer safety procedures at all times. Record daily activities and submit logs. Prepare other related reports and paperwork disbursed to appropriate authorities. Transport or escort prisoners and defendants en route to courtrooms, prisons or jails, attorney's offices or medical facilities. Testify in court concerning work activities. Place people in protective custody. Assist in the presentation of departmental training programs. Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Removal: Removal can be with or without fault of the jobholder or the agency. Appointment is at the will of the Sheriff. Economic conditions that cause reductions in work force, the member's inability to attend regularly to work, chronic illness, and a failure to perform competently on any of the critical tasks of the position or a consistent failure to perform competently on regular tasks are among the major reasons for job removal without fault. Failure to support the agency's mission, uphold the oath of office, behave in a manner that supports the Sheriff's Office Code of Conduct, continually comply with preconditions of original employment, or to display due regard for the civil liberties of any persons, will lead to removal with or without fault. In addition, accruing atypical amounts of dysfunctional work time or requiring atypical amounts of supervisory counseling or remedial training will lead to removal with or without fault.
