JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President, Head of Litigation, the successful candidate will work closely with the Litigation Team and key business stakeholders to provide high-quality legal advice, primarily in the areas of eDiscovery and product liability litigation, complex commercial disputes, warranty matters, and class actions. The successful candidate will be expected to independently lead eDiscovery work on an active caseload of complex matters and supervise and coordinate project execution to meet case and project deadlines, budgets, and standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product liability and commercial litigation and a deep understanding of advanced eDiscovery tools and processes.
The successful candidate must be a team player with a demonstrated history of working collaboratively and effectively with an experienced group of in-house and external lawyers , paralegals , and IT professionals . The successful candidate must be a self-starter and have an ability to work effectively with all levels of the Company and its outside counsel and vendors. In addition, the ideal candidate also will possess strong leadership and managerial courage, emotional intelligence and maturity, an appropriate sense of urgency, and excellent business partnership and relationship-building skills. A passion for the outdoors and an aptitude or interest in mechanical/engineering problem-solving is also highly desired.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead all aspects of eDiscovery projects and obligations across a diverse range of matters.
Efficiently manage portions of the company’s complex pre-litigation and litigation matters, including matters involving product liability, warranty, commercial, and class action cases and other litigated matters in a manner that reflects internal priorities and protects company interests.
Work closely with eDiscovery vendors and outside counsel on ESI protocols, protective orders, privilege issues, and document review and production processes.
Develop and execute project plans for each stage of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model.
Take proactive measures to identify and address the company’s document-retention and eDiscovery needs.
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in eDiscovery technology and methodologies.
Provide training and support to Legal and IT teams on issues related to litigation, eDiscovery processes and tools, and document-retention policies and best practices.
Independently and effectively manage external counsel and external eDiscovery professionals in all aspects of litigation.
Confidently communicate with internal business stakeholders regarding litigated matters, process improvements, and other matters.
Negotiate litigation settlements and represent Polaris at mediations and trials.
Lead and contribute to process-improvement projects in support of the Legal Department’s mission and initiatives.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school required.
Licensed and in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to become licensed in Minnesota.
6-10 years of significant eDiscovery and litigation experience either in-house or at a law firm.
Deep subject matter knowledge of current case law related to the preservation, collection, culling, search, review, and production of ESI (including currently evolving collaboration and communication systems), legal hold notices, and information governance.
Confident team player with attorney and non-attorney legal professionals and business partners.
Ability to manage, mentor, and direct paralegals in a collaborative setting.
Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.

Assertive self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills.

Technical background and knowledge of highly regulated consumer products is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Hybrid working model (in office/WFH). Onsite schedule based on business need. Potential for remote based with travel to Polaris HQ based on business need, dependent on candidate qualifications.
Up to 15% Travel independent of working model arrangement
The salary range for Minnesota is $135,000 to $178,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
